John Hancock (January 23, 1737 - September 11, 1816) was an American politician, writer, statesman, merchant, and noble, along with being a childhood friend of John Adams. He was the first Count of Suffolk County, Massachusetts Bay, from the title's creation upon the rise of the Union of Royal American States, to his death.
Throughout his political career, Hancock was involved in numerous historical events, though he was usually not at the center of them. These events ranged from the signing of the Declaration of Autonomy to being the man who declared martial law and ended the Great Boston Christmas Riot of 1809.
